KRISTIN OSEYCHIK, BOARD CHAIR

Kristen ImageIn the “old days”, the custom for Jabberwocky counselors was to replace yourself if you had to leave. So, in August of 1993 (my junior year in high school), I received a call from my friend, a counselor at the time, telling me to get to Martha’s Vineyard as soon as possible. I had no idea what to expect and when I stepped off the ferry and into the colorful van full of strangers, I knew immediately that my life would never be the same. I stayed the rest of the summer and returned the next 7. Jabberwocky has always been my happy place. It represents all that is good in the world. So much of who I am today is because of this amazing camp. I have visited and volunteered as much as possible over the last several decades. As it became harder to spend actual time at camp, I joined the Board to stay connected and continue giving to my favorite community. I became a Trustee in 2009, chaired the Development Committee for several years, and became the Board Chair in 2013. I have a BA from Duke University and a JD from Northeastern Law School. My husband, Scott, and I live in Wayland, MA with our 3 daughters; Sadie, Sylvia and Lyla. We love spending time on the Vineyard and my greatest joy is seeing my children jumping in and loving all that is Jabberwocky!

I started volunteering at Camp Jabberwocky in 1994, after my junior year in high school.  I agreed to be a counselor for a week but then loved it so much I stayed for a month and then returned every summer for 20 years.  My time spent at Jabberwocky has shaped the person I have become – including my career choice to become a physician – and I have made some of my closest life-long friends at camp.  I joined the Board in 2011 and became the Director of the Medical Committee and then Vice-Chair of the Board in 2014.  Since becoming a physician in 2004, my role at camp has changed from counselor to camp physician.  My husband and I work together as a medical team (I am a general pediatrician and he is an adult cardiologist) and we bring our two children with us to camp which they absolutely love.  We now live and work in Seattle but, despite being far away from Martha’s Vineyard, we still try to find at least a week each summer to return to camp to volunteer.  Camp Jabberwocky has played a very important role in my life and it is an honor to serve on the Board.

I started volunteering at Camp Jabberwocky as a counselor when I was in college during the summer of 1999. In some ways I feel like I grew up there – surrounded by an amazing group of friends (who feel like family) who are open to people of all disabilities and abilities. Before joining the board in 2012, I volunteered as a counselor for nearly a decade and helped launch Camp Jabberwocky’s 1st Annual 5K in 2009 – now one of our biggest fundraisers. I grew up in Connecticut, but lived in Boston for years after graduating from Connecticut College. I hold a MBA from Duke University and work at GE in Corporate Strategy and Global Operations. I have been coming to the Vineyard for years with my family so try to visit often. When I’m not there I enjoy traveling, running, and even try to find time to read. Camp Jabberwocky is a special place and one that campers and counselors look forward to throughout the year. I love being a part of it.

I lived in Edgartown, MA from 1983-2000 and watched 17 Fourth of July parades from Doug Garron’s porch on North Water Street. I remember when Doug helped Camp procure a bus and, every year at the parade, Camp Jabberwocky would stop to chat and wave at Doug as they passed by. I have now lived in the Boston area for 15 years and worked in the Development Office at Cotting School in Lexington, MA for 9 of those years. I have learned that some Cotting alums are campers at Camp Jabberwocky – a nice connection! Using some of the skills I learned as an English major at Middlebury College, I’m pleased to be able to assist with grant writing and Camp Jabberwocky’s fundraisers.

HARLAND S. WINTER, MD

I am originally from San Francisco, but have been coming to Martha’s Vineyard since I moved to Boston in the 1970’s. After volunteering as the physician at Camp Jabberwocky for over 30 years, I joined the Board of Trustees. I went to Cal Berkeley for college, UCLA for medical school and pediatric residency, and then moved to Boston for a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Boston Children’s Hospital. I now practice Pediatric Gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital where I have a laboratory in which we study the causes of inflammatory bowel disease and the role of the microbiome in autism. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling.

I grew up spending my summer vacations with my family on Martha’s Vineyard as my father volunteered at Camp Jabberwocky. I began working at Jabberwocky when I was twelve years old, and spent many summers as a counselor. Over the years, I have also been involved in administration, counselor recruitment, and co-founded the 5K Run for Jabberwocky before joining the Jabberwocky Board in 2012. I graduated from Middlebury College and Tufts Medical School and completed residency in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. I currently reside in Boston where I am completing medical training in adult gastroenterology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In my free time, I love to travel, spend time outdoors, run and read. I cannot remember a time in which Jabberwocky was not an integral part of my life, and am honored to have been so involved for so many years.
